I saw a PT billboard this morning, it is on west Washington St between Morris Ave and Brown St. Has anyone seen any others around town? Or any other advertising going on?

I haven't seen anything around town. I thought the billboards they did last year left a lot to be desired. Maybe now that the Cornbelters are done we will start seeing/hearing a lot more PT advertisement. I think a good goal for the PT would be getting that average attendance back to 3,000.

I've not seen anything else around town yet.
I'd love to see 3,000 at the games, I think the coliseum could be a real great venue for hockey with enough fan interest.

The Cornbelters has 6,600 in attendance on Sunday. There is no way we should be shown up by them.

There were quite a few "free tickets" in play there.. plus that was actual sales... I was there .it was prolly close to 5k actual.. still not shabby! PT usually draw well on Fan appreciation night

.. still yes they need to get buts in the seats....

If the cornbelters can draw that many people on a freebie night then there is no reason the PT cant.

Not put too much thought into this, but there's a cultural issue in play when we talk about attendance at PT games. Most people who were born and raised in the prairie haven't been exposed to hockey. The number of people in Central IL that have ever played hockey (ice, roller, dek) is very small. It's just not in the culture here. So we can't compare it to the city's baseball team.
What will it take to get people in to watch a game. First, discount tickets. Not freebies, but a simple promotion: For one game (early to mid season), you can sit anywhere (except for club seats) for $5.
2nd: We need an star to bring people in. Now, this could be an MVP, a known former NHLer or even a deal where we can get a current NHL player for a game, a really hard hitter, something that makes people want to watch. I think in the Bloomington market, an good African American like Leo Thomas would be something to bring in a new group of fans.
3rd: And this goes back to my earlier point: the PT should have a summer youth street hockey program, at least attempt it one year. The NHL did this back in the 90's with decent success. If kids learn to play hockey, they will likely watch it, and their parents will bring them to games. Street hockey opens the game to people who may not be able to afford to get their kids into ice hockey.
We can't sell the team until we sell the game.

I agree with you. Discount tickets is a great idea. And a fan fest type thing would be great.....
We had Jason Payne and Leo Thomas here before.Neither helpped with attendence. An African-american player will not draw more fans here unless he was an NHL-er like you suggest, and then he better be a big name outside of hockey or he wouldnt have any effect either.Just my opinion.

linkLink shows the Cornbelters first season. They averaged 2600+ a game. Not huge crowds by any means but with 50 dates it was enough to make them profitable. Of course the payroll for low level A baseball is small and there is no housing costs as the players stay with sponcer familys. THe familys get tickets to games in return.
The PT need to have a competive team on the ice to make the hockey fans happy and they need the off ice intertainment for the casual fan. I expect to see much sillyness between periods for these fans this year with the new GM. I don't really care as long as it puts butts in the seats and gets the organization some cash flow. IMO this is a make or break season for hockey in Bloomington. Attendance slides again this year it may spell doom for the organization.

Not meaning to say you are wrong, I am sure all of us would run a team differently if given the chance. I don't see anyone giving us a chance.
Agree with discount or gimmick tickets, no freebies. It does alienate the season ticket holders who bought the expensive seats and have a half price ticket holder sitting in front or beside them. I don't believe there is a bad seat in Bloomington, so even if I bought a cheap ticket, I would still sit in the same seat.
Don't all team want an All Star or MVP type player? That would bring in fans, until they don't want him to be on the team. I don't think you can get a NHL player for one night. Bobby Hull and the Blackhawks have come to sign autographs, I don't think they drew more fans with their being there. Bloomington did have Leo Thomas and Jason Payne, they didn't promote them as being on the team. It could be perceived as semi-racially insensitive to ask a player of African decent to promote the team as "the odd ball". If the player asked to visit the schools or read books written by African American authors to the school kids, it would be beneficial to the team. The player or players could take some of the T-shirts the PT throw out at games and reward some kids that pay attention to the stories.
The Summer street hockey programs only work with sponsors, someone has to donate the sticks, pucks, protective gear, and volunteers to officiate the games. It would promote the team and bring an understanding to the kids that have not played the game.

Huge crowd that night. I think the idea behind that is they hopefully sell more tickets than what the appearance fee is. And maybe you pick up a couple of fans who haven’t been to a game and maybe get them on a return trip.
Same when they brought in the two brothers that are on some Disney show. Couldn’t walk thru the concourse that night. It was rumored that the fee was $20k. They needed to sell around 1500-1600 more tickets to break even. I think they ended up with over 5500 for that game so they made some money.
Celebrity appearances probably will not add that many return "fans" but it can boost some revenue and expose the team more to the community.
