The new CBA will take place immediately and will run through the 2011-12 season establishing financial regulations for the players along with maintaining numerous player oriented programs.  Among those programs are off-ice medical insurance, a Career Enhancement Program and free counseling services for players.

6 vets is a nice compromise. 1 of which had to play for your team the previous year is kind of a weird rule though.
Y2K
There used to be a rule in the UHL where you had a franchise player and this players salary did not count against the cap. Maybe thats what this is
Bucky B
so what if you trade that player in Janurary? do you then only get 5 vets the remainder of the year?
Y2K
no clue....but i am sure Cohn or Sebring will have a chat with the Frankes and find out exactly what it does mean.

David Franke says the Cap is about 11,000 per week. Either it is or it isn't 11k per week..lol

For example, teams can have two players deemed offseason employees, and they can be paid outside of the salary cap. One of the Komets' such players, David Franke confirmed, is goaltender Nick Boucher.

Team can also get a credit against their highest paid player, David Franke said, so that only half his salary counts against the cap.

So there is a cap but 2 1/2 players do not count towards it? Interesting. Why not just raise the cap? But then again gives teams the power to pay their top 3 players a big time salary with only half counting towards the cap and maybe help keep the cap cheating down I quess. Leaving it up to the team if they want to dole out buckets of payroll in these 3 slots.

Sets up a haves vs. have not’s IMO as well as making somewhat of a mockery of a salary cap. Here's your payroll but we don’t care what you pay 3 of your players.

Is the thinking of the league that it will help with recruiting and being able to bring in high caliber players?

I'm thinking this provision is intended to create some stability to the talent level and establishes a two tier system for players in the league. There are a handful of cap-exempt players, and then everyone else.

I would also expect that those who cheat on the cap will continue to cheat anyway.

thats a pretty stupid setup. either have a cap or don't. don't allow teams like FW and colorado to bend the rules to fit their needs better.

Love how it always comes back to Fort Wayne some how....Quad City gets the same rules! if they don't use them like the Frankes do it's their own damn fault!

i dont even live in the quad cities anymore! and i wouldnt really have called me a fan of the mallards when i was there...

i dislike unfair rules. not because i am a communist obama lover, but because i like to see competitive teams and leagues. when you set up rules for only a few teams to succeed, it ruins the league.

my favorite team in any sport is the red wings. yet i am super happy the nhl put in the salary cap after the lockout. not because it helps the wings, but because it helps the nhl.

stop being a stupid homer and realize some of us actually are capable of impartiality.

i told you where i lived because you seem to think that just because i dare have a negative thing to say about your beloved komets and frankes that i must be some bitter mallards fan.

that fact is that for every 1 comment you hear about how unfair FW runs things, there is about 10 replies heralding the frankes as saints and swearing on bibles that FW has never cheated at anything. (perhaps they believed barry bonds too since he 'never tested positive')

like i said, i could care less about the team in the quad cities. the reason they suck is they have stupid ownership and a bad coach. so they end up with crappy players playing an awful system. aside from a 40 point head start, i dont think there are any rules the chl can create to save them.

like i said, this is a terrible rule. it benefits teams like FW that can buy their players. i can only assume they were the ones that demanded it be this way. i can't exactly see dayton begging for rules like these when they can't even afford to pay who they've got.

Y2K
Okay then same point...everyone has the same rules to follow. If they can't follow them then shouldn't be in the business of minor league hockey!

I don't know if the Komets have cheated and have not come on here and swore by the bible of all things that the Komets are saints.

But hey question for you do know for a fact know that the Komets or any other team people claim bend the rules and cheat have ever cheated??? Do you or don't you! its a yes or no question.

My guess is no because like myself we are all nobodies and have no inside track to what any team does behind closed doors.
